Remover for powder coating

In the process of applying powder coating , like any other performance, there is a possibility that there may be some problems that need to be repaired or revised. Due to the general chemical and mechanical resistance of industrial paints, especially electrostatic powder colors, the process of repairing or refining the post-curing is not simple process.

There are generally two ways to renew, repair, or remove powder coatings from metal:

1. Chemical

2. Physical (consist of two ways: A. mechanical B. thermal)

      A. Mechanical:

Sandblasting, sandpapering and surface grinding are used in this method for removing.

These methods, in addition to removing coatings from metal surfaces, also exfoliate the surface, which may be desirable for thick and sturdy steel structures, but for fine and thin metal surfaces, limiting the removing process. In addition, sandblasting operations are likely to damage the form of structure and also be harmful to the environment.

      B. Thermal:

The use of direct flame and high heat to burn the paint layer off the metal surface, which is a very primitive method in addition to the environmental and personal safety hazards, the carbon soils and the remaining ash itself need to be cleaned and washed after burning the paint coating.

Chemical method:

In this process solvents are used, which react with high quantities (usually immersion) on the surfaces painted in its molecular bonds. A reaction that breaks down transverse bonds and polar adhesion and solves color coatings.

These materials are divided into two main groups: acidic and basic, which are commonly used as water soluble.

1.Alkaline Removers

This group of bleacher is usually used for air conditioners and furnaces liquid colors. It is also used in powder coats provided that first, it should have a concentration of about 35% to 50% in water, and secondly, the base of coated surface should be metal. It should not be used on non-ferrous surfaces. The method of use is also immersed on the surface at a temperature of about 100 to 120 degrees.

One the main reason of using alkaline bleach is their cheap prices.

·Alkaline removers contain very powerful corrosive substances, so safety and hygiene requirements should be strictly observed when using them.

1.Acidic Removers

This type of removers can be used to clean all kinds of paints, including powder and liquid. The concentration of the solution to be used is 30% to 50% and varies depending on how thick the layer of coat is on the surface. It should be immersed in the solution at a temperature of 25 to 30 ° C, depending on the type of color condition, at least 5 and up to 60 minutes.

The water solubility characteristic at ambient temperature has greatly increased the evaporation temperature and therefore the durability of the solution for relatively long use. When using this solution, it is necessary to gently stir the remover with a plastic mixer all the time.

·Due to the acidity of the product, it is recommended to observe safety considerations

1.       Gel removers:

Gel dye is a subgroup of removers that is used in removing all kinds of liquid and powder coatings and the method of applying it is by brushing the gel with a brush on the surface. This type of remover has a relatively higher safety in use.
